Mike Ryan is the Artist that Should be on Everyone's Radar
The fact that Mike Ryan is only popular in Texas is a sin. With two LPs and an EP released and a third studio album on the way, Mike Ryan is one of the most genuine artists out there these days. I had the pleasure of meeting him when he came to Chicago in July and couldn't be happier that he took the time to talk to me and Kevin before he hit the stage.
If you're wondering where to begin, bust out his album Bad Reputation. It starts off with an "over you" track titled Wasting No More Whiskey about a man who refuses to waste another sip of alcohol on drinking away her memory. It's followed by the title track Bad Reputation, about a man who never thought he'd be tied down not wanting to leave the bed of a girl he just met. Throughout the album, he has heartbreak tracks like But Why, Putting Off Telling Me Goodbye, and Dancing All Around It and goofier songs like Girls I Date.
However, after 3 years, a new album seems to be on the horizon. The lead single, New Hometown, is a great song about finding a new place to your hat where you know the memory of her won't follow. HIs latest release is Sad Song, about having your mind played with and teased, knowing that even though she won't say it's over, she's just a sad song in the making.
Do yourself a favor and listen to Mike Ryan.
