What the Hell is Tortuga Music Festival?

Randomly scrolling through the social medias this morning I came across a lineup photo for the Tortuga Music Festival. I have one question about this lineup…. What is going on?

I knew little to nothing about the 2017 festival, which I assume happened sometime last April, as the 2018 lineup is set for the 6th through 8th of April, but I had thought it was a country festival. Based on the upcoming lineup, I guess it can sort of be considered a country festival for including a handful of great country artists (see below), but the others in the lineup though go from “ugh” to “wtf” real quick.

The Good:

Eric Church as a headliner as well as including Brothers Osborne, Kip Moore, Dwight Yoakam, The Cadillac Three, William Michael Morgan, and Muscadine Bloodline.

The Ughhhhh’s:

Florida Georgia Line and Keith Urban as headliners (yea Steve, I included Keith Urban in the shitty part (editor's note: shut up, Kevin)), as well as including Dan + Shay, Chase Rice, and Dylan Scott.

The WTF’s:

Snoop Dogg as a headliner as well as including Shaggy and Cheap Trick. I have zero problems with any of these artists (It Wasn’t Me is a jam, and if you don’t like it then you don’t like fun), but could you imagine if you just got done listening to William Michael Morgan and then next up comes Snoop doing Gin and Juice? It makes no sense.

And by makes no sense, it makes perfect sense. A giant beach party filled with pop and rap music with just enough country acts to be considered a country festival. Props to the official website though, for having the festival labeled simply a “Music Festival” rather than any inclusion of the word country. I only include that tag because of the people I have seen post about it so far who claim to be country fans.
